Washington Park

Welcome to Washington Park, an historic neighborhood located just a few miles west of Downtown Atlanta. With a rich past and exciting future, this vibrant community boasts a diverse population and a convenient location, making it a great place to call home.

Past

Washington Park Neighborhood in Atlanta was the first planned Black suburb in the city, developed by Heman Perry to provide affordable homes, businesses, services, schools, and colleges for black families. The park constructed in 1919 was the first recreational park in Atlanta available to African Americans, and it quickly became the anchor for the development of the Historic Westside.

Many of the homes and civic institutions in the community were designed and built by black architects and contractors during a time when they were denied professional licensure and commissions to work in other parts of Atlanta.

Present

Today, the Washington Park neighborhood remains a vibrant and welcoming community with approximately 2,000 residents. With a mature median age of 41, the area features a mix of historic homes and modern developments.

The neighborhood is conveniently located near the Atlanta Beltline Westside Trail, MARTA transportation, and several parks. Residents also have access to exciting events and activities, as the nearby Mercedes Benz Stadium and World Congress Convention Center offer live concerts, games, and conventions. With so much to offer, Washington Park is a fantastic place to call home.

Future

Washington Park is undergoing significant revitalization and redevelopment.
There are several residential and commercial developments planned for the neighborhood, including the extension of the Beltline Westside Trail and new retail stores.
